Inserting Small In-Article Ads
Inserting a smaller CPA or other ad unit within an article is easy.
Here are the things to consider:
Leave space for ads as you're doing the layout.
Trying to jam in ads after the fact is a fool's errand.
Leave EXTRA white space around the ads. 40-50 pixels per side is usually good.
Example: if you have a 300x250 ad, you probably want the space to be around 380x350 or thereabouts.
Have a basic idea of the category, advertiser, or at least color of ads you're looking for as you're doing design.
Not every page needs an ad
No page needs more than two, unless...
It's a full page ad with multiple products / calls to action
A standard MagCast page is 768x1024. In a typical two column layout, that means you have six "standard places" for a 300x250 ad or four for a 300x600 size ad:
Left Column
Right Column
1
4
2
5
3

Left Column
Right Column

When dealing with a 720x300 or other wide ad, it's best visually to place the ad in the lower slot as shown here in Slot 5:
Left Column
Right Column

3
2
4
5
(Best place for 720x300 or
similar size extra large,
wide ad unit.)
Examples
In this example, we'll be positioning an ad at position 3; here's the final product you'll get:
Now, let's look at how you can make a similar one.
